ARCHIVED COMMUNICATION – MEDIA MONITORING DIVISION
Date: February 23rd, 1996
From: Agent Kelsey
To: Oversight Committee, Division of Narrative Integrity
Subject: The X-Files S3:E14 – “Grotesque” (Airdate: 2/2/96)

Team,
Please be advised that last week’s episode of The X-Files contained at least five semi-accurate references to D.C.B. phenomena, albeit filtered through their usual alien-vampire-demon blender.

Concerning overlaps:
“Entity-driven possession linked to drawings” mirrors Seethe Residue Case 014-A (Cedar Rapids, 1991).
The line “We become the thing we fear most” is almost verbatim from Heiser’s Murmuration Doctrine draft (redacted 1992).
Agent Scully theorizing “psychogenic suggestion manifesting physically” got closer to the Red than we’d like.

Before we panic, remember: no one believes what’s on TV anymore. Even if they land on 90% truth, as long as they wrap it in enough fog machines and rubber suits, the public reads it as fiction.

That said, we may want to consider a narrative injection op on Season 4, just to ensure they stay focused on Antarctica tunnels and invisible government lizard people.

Also—Area 51 is, of course, real. But please remind new hires not to refer to it as “our dry storage for nonsense.” It’s still under dual-use custody with the Air Force and has a lot of paperwork attached.
